How to Survive the Unemployment Bug: 5 Things to Do If You're Jobless
60If you are a recent graduate or have been dismissed from your job, the unemployment bug may be putting a damper on your life. What do you do with your iife when all of a sudden you have no obligations and so much time? How can you fight off boredom but at the same time be doing something productive? The 5 ways below might help fight off that annoying bug.
# 1 Get in Shape
For years you've been saying the only reason you don't go to the gym is because you have no time. Well, now you have all the time in the world! Get out there and run a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon. If you don't like to run, find something else that gets the adrenaline pumping. You may find that you have more energy to fill out all those job applications.
# 2 Keep Your Skills Up
The most important skill in the business world is communication. Keep writing, writing, and writing, Maybe start your own hubpages or blog, anything that will keep your brain moving is good. If your line of work requires no writing at all find something to help you keep your skills fresh.
# 3 Meet Up With Some Old Friends
Those same friends you didn't have time to see before are still there. Call them up! It might be refreshing to be around them again. It will also help broaden your network, and maybe one of those long lost friends will know someone, who knows someone, that can get you a job.
# 4 Do Something New
Have you ever wanted to try something new and like usual didn't have the time? Well here is your opportunity! You can travel the world and see places you only dreamed of. Be careful though, you are jobless and money doesn't flow in like it use to. If you're on a tight budget even a simple road trip to the next town can get those adventure juices flowing. If you, for some odd reason hate traveling, take up a new hobby like playing a musical instrument or a sport you have never played before.
# 5 Read
Nothing beats a good book. That is, unless you're jam packed and have no time what so ever at all. Yay! You have plenty of time now so read a book or a series. Reading books is great exercise for your brain. You may even pull out some fancy new words at your next interview. If you don't like to read then you should probably reconsider. Start with Dr. Seus and work your way up. It's never too late!
Having all the time in the world is great... for about a week. If you're sick of being a waste of space couch potato change things up and try something new. It may give you a new lease on life
